Dr Edgar Tay is a cardiologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Singapore.
His subspecialty is in adult congenital, interventional cardiology and pulmonary hypertension.
Dr Tay is a graduate of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his cardiology training at the National University Hospital, Singapore.
He obtained the Ministry of Health Scholarship to undergo sub-specialty training in adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, UK and then completed a second year of interventional fellowship at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver BC where he was trained in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). He now leads the TAVI and mitraclip mitral valve repair programme.
Prior to joining private practice, Dr Tay was a senior consultant at the Department of Cardiology, National University Heart Centre (NUHC), Singapore, programme director at the Congenital/Structural Heart Disease Programme, NUHC, visiting senior consultant cardiologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, visiting senior consultant cardiologist at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and assistant professor at the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.
He has authored or co-authored numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is accredited by the European Society of Echocardiography for adult congenital heart disease and has written book chapters on echocardiography in congenital heart disease and structural intervention. He has also obtained several research grants to develop new transcatheter devices.
Presently, Dr Tay is actively involved in the management of patients with structural heart disease, especially those with valvular heart disease who may benefit from transcatheter therapies. He also manages patients with adult congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension and those with heart disease in pregnancy.
