Dr Andrew Quoc Dutton is an orthopaedic surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
He has subspecialty interests in arthroscopic/keyhole and sports surgery, knee and hip replacements, cartilage regeneration and stem cell therapeutics in orthopaedics.
Dr Dutton grew up in Canberra before graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He then worked at the Prince of Wales Hospital and St. George Hospital in Sydney. He completed his subspecialty orthopaedic surgery training at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital, USA.
He has been in clinical practice for the past 17 years. Prior to joining the private practice, Dr Dutton was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with the School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and NUH. He has also served as the Founding Head of the Sports Clinic and Fellowship Director for Sports Surgery at NUH.
In order to improve patient care, Dr Dutton founded Singapore’s first Sports Surgery Registry at NUH and also helped to set up the Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Registry.
He has worked with the Singapore Sports Council and has treated some of Singapore’s national elite athletes of various sports such as football, rugby, badminton, basketball and netball. He was an official physician during the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games hosted in Singapore.
Dr Dutton was invited back in 2007 as a Distinguished International Faculty at the Harvard Arthroplasty Conference, USA and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Conference, USA. In Singapore, he has been the Chairman for various courses on Knee and Shoulder Arthroscopy as well as being the Founding Chairman of the Uni-compartmental Knee Arthroplasty course.
Having been a pioneer for computer guided surgery and minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery, Dr Dutton was an invited author in 2010 to the prestigious international Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery- American for his leading research paper: Minimally Invasive, Computer Guided Total Knee Replacement.
Dr Dutton has been an invited International Faculty and expert for conferences in China, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Orthopaedic surgeons from these countries have come to Singapore to train as clinical fellows under Dr Dutton’s guidance.
In 2003, Dr Dutton won the Singapore Young Investigator Award for his work on stem cells therapy for the knee. He has obtained several government research grants for cartilage repair and bone graft applications. Dr Dutton is one of the few orthopaedic surgeons in Southeast Asia able to perform stem cell therapeutics in orthopaedics. He continues to be a member of the National University of Singapore Tissue Engineering Group.
